Prince Albert’s MP not opposed to changing marijuana laws

A big change could one day be coming to the country's criminal code, and it's one that Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback wants to start exploring.
During their annual meeting, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police put forward a proposal that would allow police to ticket for the possession of small amounts of marijuana, instead of prosecuting.
"It's a proposal I think we are going to have to look at very seriously … we are going to be polling people in the riding to see what their feelings and suggestions are in regards to marijuana," said Hoback.
Hoback could not provide a timeline for when the issue might be raised in Ottawa. That being said, he explained he can sympathize with what police officers are going through.
"If you look at a protest where you see 400 or 500 pot users, you just wonder how you are going to process that through the criminal court systems," said Hoback.
The issue of marijuana has heated up recently, following Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's admission that he occasionally smoked marijuana. Trudeau confessed to having smoked as recently as three years ago.
The Liberal leader is now pushing for an end to a marijuana prohibition policy.
"We have no intent on legalizing or de-criminalizing marijuana, that's not our intent at all. Marijuana is a gateway drug, there's no question about that so we don't want to do anything that will negatively impact individuals or families," said Hoback.
Hoback is currently in Ottawa.
He said despite the talk of proroguing Parliament, he remains busy discussing issues that impact his riding.

re: Does Randy Hoback support the removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?
Dear Randy Hoback,
Do you support the simple removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 306 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
