“Thank you for your email of April 13, 2015. As a Candidate seeking election for the Liberal Party of Canada, I support my party’s position on this issue.
Simply put, the current criminal laws regarding possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana do not deter the availability nor the use or abuse of marijuana in Canada. Using the criminal justice system as a deterrent in this situation has failed, not only in Canada, but in many other jurisdictions.

What I support, as a Liberal Candidate, is to decriminalize possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, not including amounts prescribed by a physician.

A Liberal government would work closely with various organizations such as law enforcement, physicians, and other community based groups to formulate regulations regarding safety of the substance, the distribution, sale and regulations on possession. Our goal is to protect children, young adults and vulnerable people without resorting to the heavy hand of the criminal law.

We would also work with treatment advocates to develop policies regarding addiction.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to provide my response.”

Yasmin”
