Mr. Speaker, last October, the Prime Minister announced Canada's new national anti-drug strategy. Groups from every sector of the addictions fields came out in support of the strategy because Canadian parents have been bombarded by confusing mixed messaging from the previous Liberal government for far too long.

The Liberals' poorly devised and misplaced messaging has led to some Canadians wondering if marijuana is still illegal.

Since launching the strategy, the Minister of Health has strengthened and improved the messages we send to Canada's youth on drug abuse.

Would the Minister of Health please update this House on how that process is going?

Marijuana Grow op bust
Speech 3/9/2012
Thank you Assistant Commissioner Bill Robinson for that warm introduction. Good
afternoon ladies and gentlemen; and thank you very much for coming today.
I am pleased to be here on behalf of my colleague Vic Toews, Canada’s Minister of Public
Safety, with my partners from the province and the RCMP, all of whom play such a very
big role in helping us achieve our goals to get drugs off the streets.
It gives me great pleasure to recognize in person the efforts of the men and women of
RCMP’s “D” Division, as well as members of the Ste. Anne Police Department, who took
You should all be very proud of the successful completion of this significant operation,
which has prevented a significant amount of marihuana from reaching our streets and
A few short months ago, Minister Toews helped launch the RCMP’s national strategy to
combat marihuana grow operations, which pose a serious threat to Canadians, the safety
of our communities and the law enforcement officers fighting against these illegal
Today’s announcement is a great example of this national strategy in action.
And it is just one more way that our government is delivering on our commitment to
Canadians to reduce the presence, harmful impacts and illegal activities associated with
marihuana grow operations controlled by organized crime groups.
Together, through initiatives like these, we can and will make a difference.
Thank you all again, and congratulations on a very successful operation.

Dear James Bezan,
Do you support the simple removal of Cannabis/Marijuana from the criminal code of Canada, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 303 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
