Nov 07, 2013 | Meeting set for medical marijuana rule changes
Port Colborne Leader PORT COLBORNE — Next Wednesday residents will get a chance to learn what upcoming changes to medical marijuana regulations will mean for local proposals.
Welland MP Malcolm Allen will be hosting an information session at the Sherkston Community Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 13, beginning at 6 p.m. Next April Health Canada will be changing the regulations regarding medical marijuana growing, moving to a more commercial setting where larger scale operations will be set up.
A possible operation on Pinecrest Road has drawn the ire of residents, who have expressed concern over property values and safety if the farm becomes a large operation next year. That led Port Colborne city council to call on Allen to host a meeting, as the regulations are under federal jurisdiction.
Health Canada, though, has declined to send a representative to discuss the new regulations. Instead, Allen will be asked to bring any questions not answered back to Health Canada.
The Sherkston Community Centre is located at 4891 Sherkston Rd.

MP tries to clear air over hazy medical marijuana rules
Port Colborne Leader By Luke Edwards
"
PORT COLBORNE — With less than five months until the rules surrounding medical marijuana usage change, many patients, residents and growers are still largely in the dark.
... .
Allen said there’s an expectation that, at least initially, cost for users could skyrocket.
“Cost will probably be magnified three, four, five times,” he said. “It’s definitely going up.”
And with many medical users hardly able to afford to grow it themselves, Allen said prices increasing threefold or more would make it impossible for them to get their medicine.

Dear Malcolm Allen,
Do you support the simple removal of Cannabis/Marijuana from the criminal code of Canada, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 303 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
