Dear Sam,
Thank you for taking the time to write to Chrystia with your support for the legalization of marijuana. We apologize for the delay in responding to your email.
We appreciate your interest in participating in this historic conversation.? Our first priority-and that of the Liberal Government-is to protect Canadians' public health and public safety. We recognize that the current system is broken, and we have committed to working with health and safety experts from across the country to implement a new, more effective plan.
As the Minister of Health, Jane Philpott, has said "we will introduce legislation in the Spring of 2017 that ensures we keep marijuana out of the hands of children and profits out of the hands of criminals." In the coming weeks, the Government will launch a task force that will provide expert advice on how the legalization process should take place; it will include perspectives from many different sectors, including health, justice, law enforcement, and public safety.
Thank you once again for writing to Chrystia about this important issue.
Warm regards,
Office of the Hon. Chrystia Freeland
Member of Parliament for University-Rosedale

re: Does Chrystia Freeland support the removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?
Dear Chrystia Freeland,
Do you support the simple removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 307 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
