Combating Marijuana Grow Houses Saturday 27th January 2007.
"
TORONTO - The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, will, in the near future, introduce a Motion in the House of Commons, calling for mandatory minimum sentences in order to combat the spread of Marijuana Grow House Operations.

“I believe mandatory minimum sentences should be on a graduated scale - more than three plants, the punishment would be two years in jail; 21-50 plants, five years in jail; 50-100 plants, seven years in jail; and over 100 plants, the minimum penalty would be 14 years in jail.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “We need to send a strong message to those who mastermind, operate and profit from grow houses. This dangerous criminal activity cannot be tolerated.”
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice was in the process of holding hearings on Bill C-17, An Act to Amend the Contraventions Act and The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts on mandatory minimum sentences for Marijuana Grow House Operators when the election was called in November 2005.

re: Does The Honourable Jim Karygiannis support the removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?
Dear The Honourable Jim Karygiannis,
Do you support the simple removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 306 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
