"
Mr. Speaker, the public safety department is working very closely with the justice department and the health department to produce a regime for Canada with respect to marijuana that will, in fact, do a far better job in keeping our kids safe, keeping this product out of the hands of children and young people, and stopping the flow of illegal money to illegal gangs and organized crime.

The regime in place today has failed miserably. Perpetuating the status quo is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

“The status quo is dysfunctional. It doesn’t work. We saw that in the 20s and 30s with prohibition. It’s an idea that’s just is not effective.
We are of the view that a regulatory and taxation regime is likely to be more effective in keeping marijuana out of the hands of young people.
I think Canadians will, by and large, rally to this issue. They will be supportive of this issue and see this as a good idea for moving forward.
This proposal is one where the leader has been very clear, and the party was very clear before that in adopting a resolution at the convention in Vancouver in January 2011.”

re: Does The Honourable Ralph Goodale support the removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?
Dear The Honourable Ralph Goodale,
Do you support the simple removal of cannabis as a schedule II controlled substance from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (S.C. 1996, c. 19)?, and let it be treated the same as Lettuce, Tomato, Oregano, Roses, Aloe Vera, Fern or any other common garden herb, flower or house plant?
Do you know the difference between Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis?
I look forward to receiving your responses as it will be made public, so then others wont need to ask you the same question.
Kind regards,
Sam Vekemans (address)
P.S. All 307 Members of Parliament are being asked these same questions.
