Dear Mr. Vekemans,
Thank you for your e-mail regarding cannabis policy. I note that you have put in a lot of work advocating for the legalization of marijuana.
I intend to support the Government’s efforts to legalize, regulate and restrict access to marijuana. Our Government has been clear that it will introduce legislation in Spring 2017 that ensures we keep marijuana out of the hands of children and profits out of the hands of criminals. I should note, however, that as a Member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, one of my responsibilities will be to review this legislation in detail. I must therefore also keep an open mind, consider testimony presented before the Committee by witnesses, and propose amendments to the legislation as appropriate.
Yours very truly,
Colin
